Fiber Technician
Stratus Construction is looking for Fiber Technicians to install and repair Stratus’ network.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Hand digging and manual Laboring
- Vault/HH placement
- Rodding, handline and fiber blowing methods
- Understanding MPOE and Building Entries
- Use all required personal protective equipment
- Directing traffic
- Safely operate company vehicles
- Use of hand tools
- Ability to work in various physical conditions such as heights and confined spaces
- Professionalism when face to face with customer contact
- Employees must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Lift up to 75 lbs.
- Pass a drug screen, Clean MVR, and background check
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Fiber Splicing
- HDD operation
- Fork or scissor lift Certification

Splicer
Splicer
Stratus Construction is currently hiring experienced Splicers for Peoria and Rockford, IL. As a Fiber Splicing Technician, you will play a crucial role in our network deployment, maintenance and emergency repair. Your primary responsibility will be to perform fiber optic splicing and testing for new and existing customers and to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our network infrastructure.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to splice fiber optic cables loose tube/ribbon and how to place a mid-sheath splice.
- Able to test/troubleshoot fiber using OTDR.
- Ability to access manholes, and hand holes.
- Use ladders to access various installation and construction points as required.
- Ensure proper safety techniques and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Able to construct proper splice including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.
- Ability to perform work in accordance with TIA, RUS, and customer specific standards.
- Comfortable entering, maintaining and exiting existing splice enclosures.
- Knowledge of the installation of fiber optic cable in new and existing conduit.
- Ability to terminate, test, troubleshoot and maintain fiber optic networks.
- Must have good attention to detail regarding setting up splice locations, termination points, and general live fiber optic construction.
- Other duties as required.
- Must be able to work overtime and on call schedule
- Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Experience and Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One year of fiber splicing experience preferred.
- Ability to read and follow engineering design maps.
- Must have intermediate MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
- Ability to drive for results completing assignments timely and accurately.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working with a team or alone.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen, criminal background check.

Permitting Technician
Job Title: Permitting Technician

Level/Salary Range: $45k - $65k
Position Type: Full-Time
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the preparation and submittal of fiber optic ROW permits, railway crossing permits, and 404 permits to the Army Corps of Engineers. Requires knowledge of municipal processes, codes and ordinances, as well as frequent interface with local governments, DOT, and other jurisdictions.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Using ArcGIS Pro and Arc Online to create plans and measurements for several types of Fiber optic permits.
2. Filing permit applications with government entities in a timely and efficient manner.
3. Following up and completing any tasks needed to get a permit approved, such as securing bonds, COIs, and LOCs from our insurance company and bank.
4. Collecting and cleaning GIS data, creating applications, and performing analysis for various departments throughout the company.
5. Communicating with various government and private entities on the status of permits.

Experience with Python or other programming languages
Comprehension and understanding of construction plans, standards, terminology, and surveys
